One universal mobile phone charger for all phones in 2010

Currently, I own three mobile phones and I have three different chargers for them and I must say, it would have been better if I had only one charger to charge all the three phones. Well, my prayer may not be answered at this moment but European cell-phone users are going to see a universal charger for all their mobile phones from 2010. The top ten mobile phone makers of the world agreed to produce a single mobile phone charger for all types of mobile phones used in Europe and the new charger will become available from next year.

Apple, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson represents 90% of the European mobile phone market. These ten cell-phone manufacturers submitted a MOU to the European commission. The agreement has no legal binding at the moment. Under the new agreement, the universal charger will use a universal charger with “mini-USB connection.”

This a very big step by the mobile phone companies but there are many other electrical devices that needs to be brought under one common standard and it would make lives easier such as portable storage devices, TV remotes, game controllers. The electronics industry should also focus on these devices.
